Tell Me A Story

“Tell Me a Story” – the riveting tales told by over-55 year olds, of their early years living and working in the Glenelg Shire, south-western Victoria. This program originated from an idea by Shelley Nevins, a presenter at 3RPC Incorporated community radio, who was keen for older people in our community to have their stories recorded.
After 3RPC Incorporated successfully applied for a grant available through the Glenelg Shire  from the Victorian Government's - Department of Health - Ageing and Aged Care Branch  - the “Improving Liveability for Older People” 2012  (ILOP)  initiative,  significant spoken histories of people in the Glenelg Shire were recorded for future generations.

The key feature of this adventure was that all participants were over 55 ranging up to 90+ years. From the excitement and joy of the interviewees you would be mistaken in thinking they were half that age. The Project Officers, Joy and Graeme Firth of Concepts and Ideas  spent twelve months promoting the Project throughout the Glenelg Shire, training and organising interviewers and making sure the many scores of people keen to tell their stories were given full information about the project.  Their exceptional work has meant that 3RPC has a wonderful collection of stories, recorded for families, friends, listeners and posterity.  This is significant social history for the Glenelg Shire.
Listeners can hear these older people tell their stories, the stories of their youth, the good, bad and sometimes the sad times. They have taken the opportunity to share their stories and to leave them as a memento to us.
We thank them for giving us the opportunity to learn and to share.
Friends and family, and interested listeners who live outside of broadcast range can listen in by accessing 3RPC’s website  www.3rpcfm.org.au  and following the streaming links – what a pleasure!
Hosting and presenting the broadcasts on 3RPC over the 12 months following the project conclusion are important parts of the overall project. It gives us the opportunity to share these wonderful stories....
